Homeowner Tip: Beating The Heat

With temperatures expected to climb into the 90s again this week, I thought I'd share a homeowner tip that has made a huge difference in my own home.

Several years ago, I had window tinting film installed on the windows that receive the most afternoon sun. Honestly, I wasn't expecting such a dramatic difference. It significantly reduced the heat and glare while still allowing plenty of natural light into the house.

Our back windows get full afternoon sun. Before the window tinting, I kept the blinds closed most of the summer. Since having the film installed, I rarely close them anymore. It's been one of the best home improvements we've made.

As I visit homes throughout Bordentown, Columbus, Chesterfield, Florence, Hamilton, and surrounding communities, I often notice just a few sun-facing windows that make an entire room much warmer than it needs to be. Window tinting is relatively inexpensive and, in my experience, well worth considering.

It's not the right solution for every home, but if you have rooms that become uncomfortably warm during the summer, it may be something to look into.

Sometimes the best home improvements aren't the biggest ones—they're simply the ones that make your home more comfortable every day.
